Finally hello!
Sorry it's taken me a while to get on here, accessing and updating my blog has been more difficult than I anticipated despite there being Internet everywhere! So obviously we both got to buenos aires safely with all our belongings in tow. Gareth's outrageous banter about the size of my bag and large amount of my stuff was quickly stopped once he realised his bag was heavier than mine... Unfortunately this just means we BOTH massively overpacked!
Buenos aires is incredible, in our four days there we managed to do most of the must see things, inadvertently or otherwise.
Highlights were:
Our impressive lack of knowledge of Argentinian culture demonstrated by us going to recoleta cemetery (where all the famous Argentinians are buried) and not recognising one name anywhere, including evita who everybody goes to see. Instead of being in awe at being in her presence Gareth was still unsure as to whether she is in fact purely a fictional character. Thankfully this is all cleared up now but we still missed her much to the amusement of many other travellers!
The food! Steaks, ice cream, pizzas, lamb, chicken... All incredible although perhaps not the most healthy diet ever.
The hostel: for anyone going to buenos aired millhouse hostel is without doubt the place to stay if you're ok with the party atmosphere. The staff were unbelievably friendly (if a tad crazy in parts) and spoke fabulous English and were thrilled to be able to help. The rooms were great, clean and comfy and for us contained a very nice australian couple (some of the loudest snoring ever witnessed though), and two Brazilian girls called Giulia. One of them spoke fantastic English and was certainly Mr Jones' highlight.
Our increasing grip of the language.....or not. Spanish is hard, especially when the only weapon in our armoury is a small phrasebook. However we're trying our best but so far Gareth has massively embarrassed himself trying to order a beer and we have trekked round a hospital being sent to traumatology amd osteopathy before finding the dermatology ward we were looking for to sort out an allergic reaction I was having, all better now though. We're determined to get better.
Montevideo is Uruguays Capital and we travelled there on the 24th. Its a very dosy city when compared to Buenos Aires witha pretty water front and a cool old warehouse converted into a food market thing. We had some of our best food yet here (like in the blog picture) in the two days we were there and got to chill out a bit.
I am writing from Punta Del Diablo, a beach town in Uruguay which is very very windy but amazing. Beaches are fabulous and there are many beautiful surfers roaming around! We had our first full beach day today and are both, in true British style, a mixture of very pale and a bit pink. Being brown is so normal here its nice to stand out.... or not. as Gareth pointed out people looked at us like we were a new species once we had donned our swinwear in public! We're moving on to florianopolis (not sure on spelling) over night tomorrow continuing our roundabout way up to Rio. Hope you´re all well, i'm sure theres plenty of grammar for you to correct in here Freddie, thanks for all the comments so far. Love love love xxxxxxx
